Shenmue: The Movie

Shenmue: The Movie is a movie that is made out of cut scenes from major events in the first Shenmue. It had a limited cinema release in Japan in early 2001, before it was released on VHS and DVD. The DVD release of the film came in both English and Japanese. The movie was bundled together with the Xbox version of Shenmue II in the west.

Because the Dreamcast failed to reach mass market appeal, Shenmue: The Movie was released so that players didn’t have any prior experience with the first Shenmue, could get caught up with the story of the first game.

The DVD contains a fourteen-minute bonus documentary about the development of Shenmue II.
